The GoCycle G5 marks the seventh generation of the Gocycle platform, built on 23 years of continuous refinement. From the original G1 through to the G2, G3, GS, GX and most recently the G4 series, each generation has brought meaningful improvements in design, technology and ride experience.
The Gocyle G5, however, appears to introduce some of the most significant updates yet, while also addressing a number of the small gripes owners had with previous models.
Where the G4 focused heavily on the front end, with its advanced motor and redesigned fork, the G5 shifts attention to the rear of the bike. The Cleandrive cover, which previously formed part of the bike’s structural integrity, is now purely cosmetic. This gives the engineering team far more freedom in how the rear frame is constructed.
The central pivot block, long known as the occasional source of squeaks, has been removed entirely. For the first time, the bike also uses a standard bottom bracket, making this a notable step forward in both design and serviceability.
One of the biggest changes is the new drivetrain: a five-speed internal hub gear with a wider gear range, paired with a carbon belt drive. It should be cleaner, quieter and even lower-maintenance, all qualities that Gocycle owners have come to value.
Core features such as the integrated Daytime Running Light and predictive electronic shifting are expected to remain part of the G5 platform.
A lot has changed behind the scenes as well. Following Gocycle’s acquisition by Californian eBike company Aventon in early 2025, production has been on pause. If the G5 is our first glimpse into the next chapter, then what lies ahead looks very exciting.
There are also early whispers of a new electronics unit, potentially offering GPS tracking, motion sensing and geofencing.
For now, this remains a teaser, and what we have seen is still subject to change before production. But the wait should not be long. Once the full specifications are released, we’ll be ready with a detailed review and proper first ride in Australia and New Zealand.
